How these calculators work
Dimensional lumber is billed on nominal size. A 2×4×8 is 5.333 board feet even though the dressed stick is 1½ by 3½. The board foot calculator keeps those two ideas apart and prices the waste you actually buy.
Board and batten starts and ends on a board, then opens the gap so the courses fill the wall. The rafter tool is the common-rafter right triangle: half the span, minus half the ridge, rise from the pitch, hypotenuse along the top edge.
