Formula
Domestic US online cards are 2.9% + 30¢. An international card adds 1 percentage point and keeps the 30¢. A dispute, if you include it, adds $15 after the card fee. Gross-up is (net + 30¢) / (1 − rate), rounded to the cent, then the fee is recomputed on that gross.
fee = round(gross × rate + $0.30) + dispute
gross-up = round((net + $0.30) / (1 − rate))
The rates match Stripe’s published US online card pricing as recorded for this page on 2026-10-17. Currency conversion is a separate fee. This page does not invent a conversion percent.

Questions
What does Stripe take on a $100 card payment?
Domestic online cards are 2.9% + 30¢, so $2.90 + $0.30 = $3.20. You keep $96.80. These are the US online-card rates in the spec checked on 2026-10-17. Currency conversion is a separate Stripe fee and is not given a percent here.
What do I charge to net $100?
($100 + $0.30) / (1 − 0.029) = $103.29557, which rounds to $103.30. The fee on $103.30 is $3.30, and the net is $100.00.
Where does the $15 dispute fee go?
It is optional and off by default. Turn it on only for a payment that was disputed. It is not part of the $3.20 on a routine $100 charge. International cards add 1% and do not change the 30¢.
